When Apple launched the original Apple TV, I didn’t get it. They sold a set top box, that didn’t DVR anything in a country (Canada eh?) that didn’t have an online store where we could buy video content. So yeah… didn’t make sense to me.
Well yesterday’s Macworld Keynote changed all of that. The new Apple TV Take 2 looks like it’s going to kick a lot of butt.
The new Apple TV has a totally new user interface that makes browsing through your collection of music, images and videos a dream. Not only that but you can now purchase music, tv shows and movies (well, not movies yet in Canada) right from the comfort of your couch. The Apple TV boasts full podcast support and Flickr integration now as well, making it my dream device.
My plans for the Apple TV that is on a truck from apple as we speak is using it as a video jukebox. I plan on ripping all 250ish DVDs that I own to an AppleTV format. Once ripped I’ll add them to the shared iTunes library that is sitting on the network making all of my audio and video available 24/7 from the comfort of my couch.
When Apple enables video rentals in Canada, well… that will just be the icing on a *VERY* delicious cake!
